Idylls of the King
24x36”
Acrylic and gold leaf on silk with handmade dowel fringe.
This piece features lines from a Tennyson poem of the same name, which is about King Arthur's life and times. From his funeral barge, King Arthur comforts Sir Bedivere with this quote, implying that even though the Knights of the Round Table was a noble institution, it should die with the King because any institution which lives on and doesn't change with the culture will only become irrelevant and thus harmful to society.
While the median age and race in the United States skews younger, queerer and browner each year, our elected officials seem to stay about 65 years old and white. With white supremacy, capitalism and patriarchy at the helm, our system of government fails to take cues from King Arthur.
