Rot On the Vine is a commentary on society’s notions of women’s viability as they age. The unfortunate lack of scientific interest in expanding women’s reproductive window means that while men experience fertility into old age, a woman’s “usefulness” in the family process is over before middle age sets in.

Separately, late capitalism in the United States has forced every new generation to become more productivity-focused than the last, resulting in mass burnout and depression. To Rot On the Vine in this sense is to pull away from the urge to overmanufacture and to exist simply in the moment, even if that looks like squandering your productive potential.
